Payforit is a micropayment scheme that is supported by all the UK mobile operators  Everything Everywhere (formerly Orange and T-Mobile), O2, Three and Vodafone.  It allows you to make payments for goods and services using your mobile phone tariff as currency.

With an ever increasing number of people accessing online content via mobile devices there have been challenges for retailers who are trying to adapt to the new medium. One major issue is the difficulty that users find trying to input details such as their credit card details into the small screens that most mobile devices have. This leads to many purchases being abandoned before the transaction is completed.

Payforit supports iframes that enables a transaction to be completed securely from within the merchants website. It also has a feature called Payforit Single Click that allows users who have enabled the feature to be able to make payments with just a single click, and it is this particular feature that is available to UK users from today. The aim of Payforit is to provide a safe and secure platform for handling payments on mobile devices.

The integration with Facebook will enable developers to increase the number of conversions they are able to make by making the purchasing process more simplified for users. Although the technology behind the system is Payforit the integration work itself has been carried out by Bango who are well known for providing mobile billing solutions. The Single Click solution is likely to increase sales as it negates the need for a PIN number in order to complete a transaction. Although a PIN number is regarded as providing extra security it is a widely held belief that by introducing a PIN number the number of sales that are made falls by a greater number than the total number of fraudulent transactions made without the need to input a PIN. Single Click transactions may very well provide the middle ground providing security that inspires trust in users and at the same time making purchasing easy.

Payments can be made using Payforit wherever you can see the Payforit logo on a product page. There is no registration process, you just need to be a UK mobile phone owner.

Every year we seem to hear that this will be the year that m-commerce (mobile commerce) will really take off, with a system such as Payforit then this might finally happen.
